How being a trauma therapist makes me a great Burnout coach
Becoming an Exceptional Life Coach Through Trauma-Informed Psychology
When I think about my journey over the past two decades, I can’t help but notice how my extensive training and experience as a trauma-trained psychologist have uniquely prepared me to support ambitious, perfectionistic, and burnt-out women as a life coach. My work has been a profound immersion into the human experience, as well as an opportunity to witness the resilience and strength that lies within each individual. While I don’t focus on trauma specifically with my coaching clients, it doesn’t mean the women I see for coaching are trauma-free. Most of us have trauma as part of the human experience. Therefore being able to understand how trauma may influence the way a person thinks about themselves others and the world, is not just helpful, but imperative.
Embracing Empathy and Understanding
My tenure as a trauma-informed psychologist has instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and understanding. I have had the privilege of walking alongside individuals as they navigate the complex aftermath of trauma, witnessing their pain, vulnerability, and courage. This experience has honed my ability to hold space for my clients without judgment, creating a safe and compassionate environment where they can explore their innermost struggles and aspirations.
Unveiling Perfectionism and Cultivating Resilience
Women who are driven by ambition often grapple with the weight of perfectionism, which can pave the way to burnout. Not to mention, so many women who cope with perfectionism have trauma in their history. My background equips me to help clients recognize the underlying roots of their perfectionism and unravel the narratives that no longer serve them. By fostering a space for self-compassion and self-acceptance, I empower my clients to redefine their relationship with success and resilience, reclaiming joy in their pursuits while honoring their well-being.
Nurturing Playfulness in Self-Exploration
While the realm of trauma psychology may seem serious, I have learned to infuse elements of playfulness and creativity into the process of self-exploration and growth. By the time so many of my clients find me, they’ve lost that spark they once had - their laughter and easy smiles are gone. By incorporating lightheartedness and humor into our coaching sessions, we unlock new perspectives and pathways for personal development, transforming the journey into one that is both enriching and enjoyable. And isn’t experiencing joy one of the most important things in life?
